WITCHIN' Book Party Giveaway: Test your Witch knowledge for a chance to win!

{This blog hop and contest are now closed, but feel free to take the Witch Quiz and test your knowledge!)

As my newest book deals with a WITCH, let's test your WITCH-y knowledge.

Take my 5 Question WITCH TEST ...then enter my WITCHIN' DRAWING to win 1 of 5 signed copies of ANY WITCH WAY, sent free to your door (US only), plus a little surprise...

1. YOU may be a WITCH...Do any of the following apply to you?
A. Are you female?
B. Do you live alone?
C. Do you own any pets (especially cats or dogs)
D. Have you ever argued with your neighbor?
E. Do you have any moles on your body?
ANSWER: If you answered yes to any of the above, at one point in history, this could have placed you under suspicion of witchcraft!

    2. Followers of what religion might refer to themselves as 'witches'?
    A. Christianity
    B. Wicca
    C. Muslim

ANSWER: B--Wicca. Wicca is a religion based, in part, on ancient, northern European Pagan beliefs in a fertility Goddess and her consort, a horned God. My heroine, Lily, in ANY WITCH WAY, found out many of the notions she had about witches were wrong...lucky for her, she had an ancient, sexy hero for a tutor! Click here to see my book trailer in a new window.

    3. TRUE/FALSE:
The super sexy ritual "The Five-Fold Kiss" that appears in your book isn't a real thing in Wicca. You made it up to create a steamy love scene!

    ANSWER: False.
The Five Fold Kiss ritual does exist..but in practise, it's not as...sexy as in ANY WITCH WAY. It's more of a dedication ritual, and conducted with more pure intentions. Discovering the ritual during my research, I absolutely KNEW it would have to be a love scene in my novel--and so I took the real ritual and...well, steamed it up some. ;)

    4. A male witch is called a:
    A. Sorcerer
    B. Warlock
    C. Witch

ANSWER: C--Witch.  The term 'warlock' is an insult from its original definition as "oath breaker."

    5. If a Wiccan performs magick to harm someone else (like a curse), what are the consequences?
    A. Since Wiccans are taught to do no wrong, they believe their evil curse will come back on them threefold.
    B. They get beheaded by their Goddess.
    C. Nothing. A Wiccan can use spells for good or evil without consequence.

ANSWER: A--The curse will rebound on them threefold. My ancient hero, Joshua, was cursed because of an impulsive, ill-intended spell he cast. Part of his penance involves righting that wrong with Lily, who suffers from something far darker than a curse. Click here for my WICCAN-LY good book trailer!

    2. I got all the questions right! :D I've studied a lot about witches . . . And for the first question I answered "yes" to A, C (I have cats.), and E. So I guess I'd be considered very suspicious. lol

    3. I tried Wicca when I first left Christianity, but it didn't work for me :P Now I'm just a general ol' Pagan. I still want that broomstick pen though!

    6. Dylan,
Great post. I hardly knew any of that about witches. Just a couple things like the threefold karma thingy. I have cats and I'm a woman, so I guess I'd be suspicious.

Thanks so much for taking part in the Snarkology's blog hop!

    7. Loved the post. I guess I love witch lore because I knew the answers to your quiz. Now why can't all tests be so easy. lol I would have been targeted as a witch for sure. Only thing that didn't apply is that I don't live alone. lol Love that broom pen! So cute!

    10. I knew all of these, though my idiot brain shorted out on the male witch question temporarily. I immediately thought "warlock" though I KNEW it was "witch." I've been watching too much television or reading too many poorly researched books and it's blurred my thought processes. Since I love Wicca, I am deeply ashamed to have even BRIEFLY thought the wrong answer. UGH. Great test and great post. michelle_willms(at)yahoo(dot)com

      1. You should be, L.J. It's a beautiful religion--I've done my best to portray all of the wondrous aspects of Wicca...even though I admit to fictionalizing some of the magick. Hey...that's what we fiction writers do, right?
You are officially entered, L.J.--good luck!

    19. Dear Dylan,

Thank you for your interesting Wiccan novel. It reminds me of the time I stopped in rural Ohio and lived with Vampire/Yeti/Witch tribe for a summer in the 80's.

Do you think Hernando or Pasco County could handle you for a book signing?

      ReplyDelete
      Replies
      1. You had me shivering at the rural Ohio reference. (just kidding) Seriously, that sounds like a book in and of itself--Vampires, yetis and witches, oh my!

And David, if you can hook me up with a signing, there's a signed copy of BOTH of my books for you, even if you don't win. It's tough to get into bookstores/signing venues, so I'm happy for the help. :)

    20. WEll, as you know, my grandmother was a 'Seer.' Not the same as a witch, but in a certain century she might have been burned or hanged as a witch. BTW, I got all the answers correct, but since I critiqued the book ;p I know what happens. Good post.

      1. Most people miss that one--it's the question I get most often because my male hero in the book is a witch and everyone invariably asks, "Shouldn't he be called a warlock?" So I figured I'd use this post to clear up the question. :) You are officially entered in the drawing, Sherry! Good luck!
